Barcode Label Software
When making a decision on which barcode label software to purchase, there are 3
main things you need to consider:
- What type of barcodes am I going to be printing?
Most entry level software can only support 1D barcodes (UPC, Code 39,
ect...) while their higher versions will support 2D (Datamatrix, Aztec). Also
remember, your business may not have the need for 2d currently, but in the
future that may be a required upgrade for your industry.
- Am I using this directly with other software?
If you are using a Point of Sale System, or have an inventory software
already setup, then it will be a huge benefit to go with software that supports
linking directly with your inventory. You will need to know the type of
database you are using, and make sure you select software that can read it.
This will streamline receiving inventory, and printing labels at the same
time.
- How many Printers and Computers are going to need to use the
software?
Barcode labeling software has multiple options for licensing. Starter
types of software is licensed for each computer that needs to run it, while
higher versions can be licensed by the amount of printers on the network being
used, while having unlimited pcs running the software.

Professional- Needs one license for each computer using the software.
- Basic database integration.
- Full 1D and 2D barcode support.
- Can not directly communicate with other software.
- Works best with many users, or integrating with current inventory/point
of sale software.
Enterprise- Licensed by printer, not computers printing to them.
- Almost complete database integration.
- Full 1D and 2D barcode support.
- Fully custom labels including text, barcodes and images.
- Full network support.
- View and reprint labels in the printer's history.
- Works best in heavy printing environments such as the distribution
industry.
TekLynx:
Label Matrix QuickDraw
- Supports only 1D barcodes.
- Very basic database integration.
- Works best with single users printing individual barcodes, or directly
from software.
Label View
Basic- Licensed by users.
- No database integration.
- Supports more printers than QuickDraw.
- Use this version if you want Label Matrix, but have a much older
printer.
Gold - Licensed by users.
- Full 1D and 2D barcode support.
- Full Database integration.
- Fully custom labels including text, barcodes and images.
- Works best in heavy printing environments such as the
distribution industry.
Gold - Network - Licensed by users.
- The Gold Edition, but with networking capabilities.
